Further Transfer Rumours
By: Jay | July 17th, 2007Mido, Ghaly out. Shaun-Wright Phillips and Martin Petrov in?
That’s my condensed version of it. It’s pretty good, no? Still, I haven’t heard any ‘Lee Young-Pyo to Roma’ stories, and that makes me a sad panda.
Anyway, it seems that Mido will be joining international compatriot Ghaly in a move to Birmingham City. Ghaly on a permanent transfer, if a fee can be sorted, and Mido on an initial loan with an option to buy should the Midlands club stay in the division. Fantastic news for Spurs fans I think. With Ghaly pretending he is God’s gift to central midfield, and Mido straining his groin each time he reaches for another burger, we are streamlining the squad by getting rid of a couple of free-loaders. Boring stuff over.
SWP and Martin Petrov in? F*ck, I hope so. That really would be sweet, adding yet more suave attacking play to the squad. I’ve heard a fee of 12m Sterling Pounds for SWP, which doesn’t seem to bad, as long as Jol thinks he’s actually gonna play. Apparently Man City are in for Petrov too, but let’s be honest, unless they offer him some mean pay packet deal, he’ll do a Darren Bent, and look at where the proper football is being played.
If we could get either or both of these players, our chances are even better to break into the Top 4. Additionally, we could get rid of players like Danny Murphy who really has no future at Spurs unless he finds some magical boots.

I’d be pretty damn pissed if Petrov left. I hope that all this talk of Spurs and Man City offering bids for him doesn’t amount to anything!

atletico just picked up luis garcia from liverpool, so now that they have a ready-made replacement for petrov they should be willing to let him come to spurs.
Mido was great the year before, but last year he clearly didn’t give a shit, but he still has the potential to be good somewhere else. Ghaly always worked hard, and showed some flashes of real ability, but he couldn’t pass to save his life. I’m optimistic that he’s going to surprise people next year given a good run in the team, but we’re better off without the egyptians.
Murphy’s supposedly off to Wigan or Charlton, so that’s more good news!
How do you feel about the suggestions that any deal involving SWP would be some swap with him and Glen Johnson headed to the lane with Chimbonda and some cash moving the other way? Personally, I like the idea, though admittedly I haven’t seen Glen Johnson play very much. Either way, we’ll still have Lee to play on the right, and he’ll probably look more comfortable on his natural side.

Petrov is one of the club’s best players. I truely doubt they’ll let him go on the cheap or at all for that matter. Luis Garcia is a fantastic addition, but he’s still recovering from surgery.

I have to say I’m quite dubious about this whole Chimbonda saga. Peter Kenyon actually laughed in a news conference a while ago when quizzed by a reporter about constant linking with a transfer for Pascal, so I’ve tried to avoid looking at stories, or posting any messages about it. First it was 10m, then swap deal including SWP or Robben, now Glen Johnson. So I’d take it with a pinch of salt until something concrete happens.
Anyway, with Chimbonda being a quality player and having a good season Jol would be silly to let him go. I’d much rather have Pascal then Johnson. With the atmosphere at the Lane at a all-time high, we can or should expect quality players to stay or arrive at the club.
