Let me preface with a few words about yesterday. I jinxed Jermaine Jenas. In my last blog I wrote that his play has improved and that he was looking like a difference maker. Don’t get me wrong, he did once again make the difference, just not in a positive way. Jenas looked out of touch as he was barely able to pass the ball, much less score when two opportunities were handed to him on a silver platter. Nothing changes as much as it stays the same I suppose. Michael Dawson attempted to match Jenas with bad play yesterday and it was close for awhile, that is until Dawson decided to swat a ball away from Wayne Rooney in the second half. That a boy Michael! Don’t let anyone ever tell you that you can be outdone when it comes to boneheaded, game altering mistakes. You are undoubtedly King (Speaking of King, I wish he was playing yesterday).

So, coinciding with Michael Dawson’s gaffe comes news of Jonathan Woodgate signing with Spurs. Woodgate, though massively talented, has been habitually injured throughout his career. I thought we already had someone at the ‘Massively Talented-Always Hurt Center Back” spot in the aforementioned Mr. King? Perhaps a platoon of the two will give Spurs the cover they lack while not overworking either Woodgate or King? Time will tell, though when both are healthy they could be a tough pairing.

The long drawn out tale of Spurs pursuit of Alan Hutton has taken yet another turn as Spurs have reportedly been negotiating yet again with the Right-Back. Sounds like Hutton will score a sweet little million pound bonus by signing this January rather then waiting till summer.

From everything I’ve read Brazilian Full-Back Gilberto seems all set to seal up his move from Hertha Berlin to North London. Should Spurs finalize moves for both Hutton and Gilberto we’ll have seen four new defenders come to the Lane this month alone as Juande Ramos begins to reshape what has been a putrid defense.

Juve claim the Tiago deal is now dead as Spurs “drug their feet” over the move. We’ll see if that changes once Juande and his staff review footage from Sundays loss.

Thank God January is almost at an end so we can all concentrate on football games and not all this fluff. COYS!
