Wisla 1 Spurs 1: It Took An Own Goal… But We’re Through

By: Sam | October 2nd, 2008

You know that feeling, when you know your team didn’t play that great at all, but got the needed result, and you’re torn between being frustrated about the play and just happy about the score? That’s that feeling right now. An own goal by Arkadiusz Glowacki under pressure from Frazier Campbell made the difference, with a Pawel Brozek goal ten minutes from time making the tie interesting again.

I only caught the first half, so basically it looks like I caught the wrong one, because not much was happening in that there 45 minutes. Gomes was really on top of things (and boy did he look nice with that baseball cap), stopping everything cool as a cucumber, bailing out Woodgate and King most of the time. Gunter and Bale seemed comfortable on the flanks, with Bale helping out offensively very nicely as well. Honestly though, if Woodgate keeps up with the stupidities he’s been coming up with (that yellow card made me swear at my computer screen), he’s in for some bench time. The midfield was not especially convincing, with turnover after turnover in the middle of the park. Lucky for us, the ball was often given back as poorly as we gave it away. Campbell and Bent looked a bit lonely up front as a result of that, which makes me think we should have a smart midfielder/striker in our squad who can run, distribute and shoot. Oh hey wait we have that in Giovani but he’s on the fucking bench.

Attendance: n/a at Wisly Stadion
Goals: Glowacki og (58), Brozek (83)
Spurs: Gomes – Gunter, King, Woodgate, Bale – Lennon (Dawson 88), Zokora, Jenas, Modric (Huddlestone 77) – Campbell (O’Hara 68), Bent
Wisla: Pawełek – Baszczyński, Głowacki, Cléber, P. Brożek – Boguski (Marcelo 82), Cantoro (Zieńczuk 66), Sobolewski, Junior Diaz – Jirsák (Łobodziński 32), Brożek

Next up is Hull City at the Lane on Sunday. This would be a good time to win, no? Well, Hull did beat Arsenal last week, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves (actually, for a Spurs fan to get ahead of themself at this point would be quite ridiculous in any case). Until then my yiddo friends, COYS!

Kinda sucks that we can’t score our goals and we have to have defensive mistakes to score the goals. I’m not convinced with anything Ramos has done this season let alone the players and the more this goes on its getting harder and harder to watch.
