Welcome home Jermain…
By: Drew | January 6th, 2009
It’s official, Jermain Defoe has signed with Spurs once again after passing his medical today.
The clubs website has officially stated that he is a Tottenham player as well, so this isn’t just a rumor. The transfer fee has been said to be somewhere around 15 million(I know right… and Bridge is worth 12). Regardless I’m happy to see Jermain return in hopes that our goal scoring record will increase. On a good note as well, Jermain is eligible to play against Burnley today, as he was not played by Pompey against Chelsea, This of course makes Harry’s selection woes a little less stressful. We shall wait and see who else Harry manages to bring to North London in the coming weeks, With it being said that Stephen Appiah will also join the club on a season long deal, with a possible extension depending on performance.
We shall see Jermain being paraded in front of the fans tonight as he is officially introduced, before our carling cup semi-final leg. Hopefully a decent result is in our cards tonight, who knows maybe Jermain will get the first goal of his return.

I’m DEFINITELY more excited about the Appiah signing… any guy who’s the captain of his country is a good guy to have (Maybe we can get Essien to partner with him in the midfield :p )
Drew… lets just say that we sign Downing… what do you think is gonna happen with the winger situation? does lennon move to the bench to have two really good crossers on the wings, but no real target man to receive them? (defoe ain’t a big guy) or does bentley get reduced to the bench, or is it some 3 man rotation? thats been really bothering me ever since the “downing-to-spurs” stories started coming out

Mustafa, i think it will be good to get a left winger (hopefully Podolski, not Downing) so Bentley can fight for his place in the line up. His form has been awful and I think if there was some more competition he could repeat the same form he showed at Blackburn. Lennon is by far better than Bentley this year but we desperately need someone on the left side.
Also, I think Defoe and Pav may be a match made in heaven. Only time will tell, but if Pav can play with Defoe like he did with Campbell on the weekend, we’ll be banging in goals left right and centre.

I would really like to see Dos Santos get a chance under Harry. I think the kid could be a real positive for the team and he at least needs a chance with the “New” spurs. Coming in on as a sub every once in a while doesn’t give him anything to work with. I was hoping we would see him come on as a sub at least for a few minutes especially with the lead we had.

firstly, Mustafa: i think whoever we get for left winger will end there for most of the games because lennon and Bently are right sided guys by trade, so my guess is we’ll see lennon a lot more than bently just based on performances this season. also I too am very excited about Appiah being linked to spurs, this guy is perfect to play in the middle with Modric or Zokora.
Secondly,Anthony: Couldn’t agree more about Pavs and Defoe being a good match up, Defoe has the driving force and Pavs has the tactical awareness. Also I too hope that Podolski is here come the end of the month much more than Downing.
thirdly, Steven: that’s funny, you’re funny…
and finally, Seba: What the hell are you talking about, Gio was awesome in pre-season, and his injury hasn’t made him able to play since then. He actually has the ability to play up the left or right side as well like he did at Barca. I hope he comes back and shows everyone what he’s made of.
