Villa 1 – Spurs 2
By: Drew | March 15th, 2009
Wow! What a game! Jermaine Jenas has officially gotten back into my good graces. This result was absolutely huge for us. These three points see our Spurs launched up to 11th place! That is massive considering the fact that we were pinned to be going down this season.
5 minutes in, a cross by Aaron Lennon was deflected by Brad Friedel only to be headed home by Jermaine Jenas for our breakthrough.
5 minutes after Half time Darren Bent fired the second ball home, Leaving Villa with a mountain to climb. Aston Villa is definitely a resilient team so I didn’t expect Spurs to just sit back and relax after the 2nd goal. Luckily Harry knew that as well.

John Carew (who should have started in my opinion.) fired home Villa’s consolation goal in the 85th minute. Sadly for Villa fans it wasn’t enough, and Spurs took all three points from this one.
In my opinion there were rock solid performances from most of the squad. Didier Zokora had maybe the worst performance of his season today. He was turned inside out by Ashley Young the entire 36 minutes he was on the pitch. Corluka should have started the game and was a very welcome substitution. Also other than his goal, Darren Bent had a fairly mediocre game, his touch was pretty bad and unless most of the leg work was done for him he wasn’t much to challenge the defense.
This win was big for us, but on a bittersweet note it also causes Arsenal to leap frog Villa into the 4th spot… Not that I’ll lose any sleep over it, but still it’s a bummer for them. I wish them all the luck for the rest of the season and encourage them to take the 4th place spot back.
We play Chelsea next, and after the 1-1 draw earlier in the season under Ramos I feel like we have total capability to take a result from this game. We’re three points off from Wigan who are in 8th place, and only 4 points off of West Ham in 7th. If we can keep this good run of form going for the last stretch of games, I have faith that finishing within the top 10 is totally doable.

First of all, I think the last result is terrific and I expected a draw at best before the game. But I would account the win to our hardwork and that Villa is running a bad patch now.
Then, I think that for next game against Chelsea, both teams are on tremendous run, but we lack the depth and experience that Chelsea possessed, unless they decided to put belleti against lennon. I would not lose sleep if we lose this one but we will need to capitalised on the winnable games like blackburn, west ham and newcastle.
my 2 cents

WAYHAAAAY, 2-1 to the champions!! I cant wait till we play the Chelsea scum. It’s going to be a hard match but I think we have it in us to win or at least draw.

One thing from which Spurs fans can take heart this season is our performance against the Big 4 in league games. We have taken points from all five encounters so far, and although we still have to travel to Old Trafford and Anfield, seven points from the top four clubs isn’t a bad total (This, of course, doesn’t forgive some of the other dropped points in the league).
Let’s hope we can keep it up with a win over Chelsea this weekend.Posted from

I am so absolutely in love with Wilson Palacios… what an amazing signing for us, because ever since he’s joined us, he’s been a star in our central midfield, allowing lennon and modric to show off their creativity on the wings and letting jenas be more adventurous with his forward runs (which was why he was able to get his goal) and that, in turn, seems to have let him play with far more confidence…. palacios has simply been superb for us, and it appears that wigan is now a little soft in the middle without him
also, we’re only 5 points behind west ham in 7th place now, and if we get there, we have a tremendous opportunity to get back into European competition as well

I think the reason Harry started Zokora over Corluka was due to him being scared of his lack of pace. Zokora is fast and runs around a lot and I think ‘Arry’s mentality is that by doing so, he’d keep Young in check. Obviously that didn’t happen and along with Corluka being introduced was stability and experience.
Overall I’m ecstatic with the result and the only downside to this is that the scum move up into fourth.
