Transfers, So Far

We picked up Gareth Bale, we lost out on Nani and Scott Parker, and we’ve been linked with pretty much every left footed player in the world. Yeah, that sounds about right. Getting Bale was a big move- not just because he’s an excellent talent, or because he plays left back, but because we went over the head of Manchester United to get him.

Picking him up over a traditional power like United is as much a statement of intent- a “fuck off, big four”- as it was a footballing decision. You have to love to see Levy, Commoli, and Jol showing balls like this.

In the “baseless speculation that, quite frankly, I am making up off the top of my head” area, we’ve been linked repeatedly with Morten Gamst, from Blackburn. He’s a left-sided attacker, and he can fucking play. We’ve been rebuffed by Blackburn before, but I get the feeling that if we wave enough cash, he’ll come.

  The Reuters article cited is from December of 2004. I would have to imagine we’d have heard a bit more about it by now if the claims contained any validity.
