The Tale of Two Transfers…

By: Drew | January 26th, 2009

So it was announced this today that Carlo Cudicini has joined Tottenham! Oh and did i mention that it was a FREE transfer? Word on the street says that he was tired of playing second fiddle to Petr Cech, and wanted to play with a team where he’d get more time on the pitch. This transfer not only is probably my personal favorite so far this season, but is also a sign that maybe there is a method to the Spurs transfer window madness. After Cesar Sanchez left for Valencia I was sort of bummed because I felt like he didn’t ever get a chance to get comfortable… But my being bummed out has instantly been turned around now that we’ve captured our new competition for Gomes.

And in a strange double announcement, it was also stated today that Pascal Chimbonda will in fact, be making a return to Spurs after he has failed to make much of an impact at the Stadium of Light. It has been reported that after negotiating a fee, the player was in London today to complete a medical and figure out personal terms. Apparently the fee was in the realm of 3 million pounds. I guess this adds depth to our back line, and Chimbonda can play anywhere in the back 4 which is nice. As you can tell I’m trying to stay optimistic about this transfer…

The way I’m looking at it(and urging you to look at it if you think Pascal was a huge waste of money) is that we paid 3 million pounds for a good GK, and another playable defender. And as long as I tell myself that it doesn’t sound like we just lit 3mil on fire. 32 million pounds between 4 players sounds a lot better than 32 million between 3. Who knows… maybe Chimbo will impress me.

If Gomes is still hurt tomorrow who knows, we may even see Carlo get his first start against Stoke. With the slew of injuries that we are currently experiencing i wouldn’t be suprised to see Taraabt or dos Santos on the sub list either. Not that I’m complaining, I’ve got high hopes for the both of them.

COYS!!!

We will indeed see you at Wembley… nice call out, by the way… the Darren Bent thing was a low blow (as I would probably have shot myself if Rooney had done that) but I couldn’t resist… I only wish you all had signed Chelski’s other reject keeper (Hilario) instead.

Yes, this is good news, and Harry can deal with these players better than Ramos could, at least that’s what has to be done. I have a good feeling about it.

Looks like the scum have signed Arshavin… it’s a shame really, I rated him highly and would have loved to have seen him linking up with fellow Russian – Pavlyuchenko.

Didn’t we Sell Chimbo for 6mil? Then we sort of made a profit from him.

I actually read a report this morning that the fee actually hadn’t been agreed to at the ARSEnal. There may in fac be justice after all. either way i’m not believing it until he’s in an arsenal shirt.

No Steven, Cudicini comes in as a replacement for Cesar Sanchez who was our back up for Gomes before being transfered to Valencia. I probably should have clarified. Cesar never impressed the new Regime and so Cudicini is a second established keeper to give Gomes some competition and cover for him when he is injured.
