Spurs Summer Should be Interesting
By: Richard | February 20th, 2008
As we sit on the eve of the two biggest games in Spurs very young 2008 I’ve been left contemplating a few moves Spurs reportedly almost made in the January window and how those efforts will shape what we will see in the summer.
Daniel Jarque could well have completed a move to N17 in January, but with injury issues nixing the move there are still rumblings from both sides raising the possibility of completing the transfer during the summer. This would obviously fill one of the remaining holes in an otherwise stout looking squad going into the 08/09 session. Seems like a natural fit since Spurs are still uncertain as to when, or if, Ledley King will be able to feature on a consistent basis.
I think the worst kept secret in football is Tottenham’s need to solidify their keeper spot. Radek Cerny has filled in admirably but few feel he’s a long term fix while very few people can even imagine Paul Robinson wearing a white shirt next year. Livorno keeper Marco Amelia came close to penning a deal in January with Spurs, and most reports indicate that the ground work has been laid for a quick summer swoop of the Italian National.
So I’m left wondering, should we complete a deal for a centre back and a new keeper, where will Spurs need to focus after that? A left sided player on the wing? That’s always a top need according to Spurs fans. Perhaps a real world class central midfielder? Jenas has improved under Ramos as has Huddlestone, though his place may end up being at the back, so would such a move simply hinder the progress of our younger players? I wouldn’t mind seeing a bit of grit. A world class holding midfielder who can provide leadership and toughness may be just the thing to keep a talented squad from falling into the habitual lapses of concentration that we’ve grown so accustomed to seeing during the past few months.
Let me know what you think Spurs fans. I think the next moves the team makes can really make or break all that’s been done over the past few years. What are your thoughts? COYS!

I’m a neutral for the most part in England, but I’d like to see Spurs take the Carling Cup if only to prove that there are more than four teams that matter come a Cup final. It’s certainly the most straight-forward way back to the UEFA Cup for Spurs, so go on and win your way in.

You know where to go for keepers? Ligue 1. There’s an overflowing amount of EXTREMELY promising keepers all over the place.

Speaking of ‘keeping flags flying high’, there will be about 32,000 Spurs flags at Wembley Sunday…. Though they will be white, not blue:
Good luck!
