Spurs, And Such
By: Lucas | March 15th, 2007So upon being through to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup, it occurred to me that I should throw out a couple of things that had been on my mind in regards to Tottenham Hotspur as a club in general. Here, I suppose, it goes. (Doing these as solitary pieces, it should be noted.)
- As a football club we are in something of a weird position. In a league with an established “Big Four” we are currently number five, with designs on moving up. But how do we get there? We’re in an area now, where the only way to really improve the team immediately is with world-class players, or at least established stars. Now, this wouldn’t be a problem… if we had the money to do that. For instance right now, the rumor is that we’ll match any offer for Arjen Robben- which is a good thing, because he can play on the left side and may well win an Oscar eventually. (Oooooooh.) But we don’t have the spending power to pick up more than one of these Robben-type guys every year or so- which means we either have to play well above our level, or have excellent development by the younger players (I’m getting to that in a second.) Of course, the obvious answer is that the more we establish ourselves, the more we win, the more we, say, get to the Champions League, the more money comes in, and so on and so forth. On, then, to the next point.
-It seems to me that while the scum have a great reputation about their young players, we may well be able to exceed them and, in fact, could be something of a factory for the production of prodigiously talented youngsters. Lennon, Taarabt, Huddlestone, Tomas Pekhart, Terry Dixon and even Ben Alnwick (who is by all accounts as talented with a video camera as he is in the net- oh, to be young and rich and surrounded by money-grubbing whores!) give us an excellent foundation. In the fuss about the other north London club, people are forgetting Spurs, to their own disadvantage.
Anyway that’s what I’ve got today, and, of course, COYS!

Forget robben….we got Aaron to do that job…what we do need is to get Makelele from CFC..to anchor the DM. Whereever this guy goes trophy`s follow.

I’d say improving the defensive efforts would be (or should be) there main concerns. There’s no question that they can light up the best of teams with offensive flurry. So that only leaves the other half of the game. Defense. From what I’ve seen they score alot but let alot get passed them also. Correct me if I’m wrong.
