Spurs 4 – Burnley 1…

By: Drew | January 6th, 2009

What a day to be a Yido… Wait scratch that What a YEAR to be a Yido! As if the news wasn’t good enough that we signed another quality striker, And are potentially signing the Captain mid-fielder of Ghana, Then we get an incredible win in our first leg of the Carling cup semi’s. Happy Happy Days.

After a rough first half we saw a couple half decent chances from our Spurs side. But after Burnley went 1 up in the 15th minute, things weren’t looking too good for our side. The fact that the half ended that way as well was a little disheartening.

A less than impressive performance from David Bentley saw the left midfielder subbed out after half time with Jamie O’hara replacing him. This decision proved to be the saving grace(at least i think so) for our chances to take this game.

I’ll put it like this so you can get a grasp of what happened, in case you missed it…
Goal one: 47th minute,O’hara boots a corner into the box that was met by Michael Dawson’s head. Spurs 1 – Burnley 1
Goal two: 52nd minute Pavlyuchenko’s shot is deflected, falls to O’hara, who Volleys it home. Spurs 2 – Burnley 1
Goal three: 65th minute Pavlyuchenko, drives it home after escaping the defenders challenge.
Goal four: 67th minute O’hara launches a free kick from the right side, the ball is deflected by Burnley’s Mike Duff into his own net.

This match in particular marked a number of very exciting events. One being the return of Jermain Defoe and his presentation to the fans. Two being another sparkling performance by Roman Pavlyuchenko up front. Clearly he’s getting a bit more comfortable in the EPL. Three being the Great performance by Jamie O’hara, obviously trying to prove that he is the best candidate to fill the Left winger position. Who knew that the answer could have been right under our noses this whole time? Finally number four would be the return of Giovani Dos Santos the list of subs. As most of you who read this know, I have high hopes for the kid and want to see him become a regular. I only wish that he would have saw a couple minutes tonight as we were clearly going to take the game after the second goal.

The highlights of the game can be found Here in case anyone was interested. Needless to say I am Ecstatic about our win and hope that we can continue to put a run together to boost confidence.

The first half was dreadful, we literally sat back as if we had a comfortable lead and played the long ball game. Possibly the worst half all season, the lads deserved every boo they received going into the half. It’s funny how O’Hara can have such an impact, I don’t rate the boy highly at all, he’s nothing special but I realised something today. Burnley are a Championship side and therefore play a fast aggressive style of football, and like the old saying goes “fight fire with fire” and so we did, O’Hara is just that, he runs his heart out and fights for everything, unlike the other lazy gits on our team.

I was pretty disappointed to see that Dos Santos didn’t get a run out even considering the killer lead we had, I can’t wait for the boy to get back in the action, he’s going to be a world beater one day, at least I’m hoping so. Then again he did just start training again since he’s returned from injury so maybe he’s not 100% totally match fit. Either how, I suspect he’ll be playing soon, maybe he’s the solution to our left wing problem.

Also, Drew, check out the latest post on my blog, just a bit about the transfer market and the money involved, affected Spurs too with the whole Carrick and Berba deals. Leave a comment if you can, feedback is appreciated.

Mate – I read your articles and I like them but you’ve got to get David BENTLEY spelled right.

    Cheers.

Great result. Even better that Man U lost tonight as I would rather face Derby in the finals. Lets hope they can keep the pace when they travel to Old Trafford.
I agree, I wish Gio would have seen a least a few minutes to help him get back to form. I can’t wait to see what he can do.
