Spurs 2 – United Arab Emarites 1: That was close…

By: Drew | May 16th, 2009

Today saw Spurs again get an early lead through Jermain Defoe, and then give it away shortly after. Thank goodness for Fraizer Campbell being such a little guy… Or for Micah Richards falling on top of him, you decide… All I know is that little puff Liam Gallagher won’t be singing to many songs tonight.

Robbie Keane was pretty much awful out on the left wing today, no surprise there though as that’s not where he normally plays. Why won’t Harry let David Bentley back into the side? Modric could play on the left like normal and Bentley can play out on the right where he likes. I mean don’t get me wrong, I trust Harry for the most part, but give the guy another chance will ya?

Pavlyuchenko also didn’t have the best time out today, But some highlights were Modric(as usual), Our whole back line was pretty solid (except for the goal from Bojinov, which was good I’ll admit), Huddlestone was clinical with his passing, and Defoe’s goal was cheeky as they come.

I really hope Harry keeps a lot of our players in the summer, they’ve all been really solid these past few games and We really need depth if we do make it into Europe. So I pose a challenge to you the readers, I want an “In’ and “Out” list for summer. The “In” list can be as ridiculous as you want it to be, cause lets be honest, when are Spurs not linked to everyone?

I’ll start…
Out: Gilberto, Rocha, Alnwick(Loan), Zokora, Taraabt, Bent

In: Carlos Tevez(Unlikely I know), Mauro Zarate, Miguel Veloso, Pavel Pogrebnyak, Steven Defour, Jonas Gutierrez, Stewart Downing, Axel Witsel

As you can see my “In” list is a mix of wishes and people we can poach from clubs that might drop.
Let me hear it…

Well, I think if we’re gonna be raiding teams headed for the drop, instead of spending all that left-winger money on Stewart Downing, why not go for Chris Brunt from West Brom? He’s been really impressive this year, and he’s deadly from set pieces, which is something I believe we’ve lacked this year, someone that the opposition will think twice about before fouling us outside the box.

Also, I really think that Pavluychenko needs to go… he’s a talented player, I just don’t think that he’s what this team needs, and I really really hate Darren Bent, so I believe we need another striker, and he needs to be someone that is very strong and effective in the air, a John Carew-type player, although I doubt he’d be available.

Oh, and I agree with Mohamed, Darijo Srna would be tremendous for this team, so we all need to root for Shakhtar in the UEFA cup final, because from what I understand, he doesn’t want to leave without doing something in Europe with them. Also, with two fellow Croatian internationals on the team already (Modric & Corluka), a switch to Tottenham might be a little more enticing than going to another place
