Spurs 2 – Tigers 1
By: Drew | February 23rd, 2009
Yeah…. What a badass.
Today’s result saw Tottenham up to 14th place with 28 points. Not quite out of the Relegation scrap yet, but hey… it was a little bit uplifting to get a win in the league after our miserable result against Shakhtar.
Lennon scored the first goal 17 minutes in, followed by Michael Turner pulling one back for Hull. The game stayed level all the way until Woodgate scored the winner in the 85th minute.
Darren Bent got the start that he so desperately pleaded for, and did absolutely nothing to prove his worth. Wilson Palacios continued to impress me, and Keane again looked motivating but still hasn’t scored since his return.
Cudicini started over Gomes once again, despite reports stating that Gomes is still the teams #1.
There’s a big surprise…
Our game against Sunderland has been postponed, so we face ‘Boro next. Hopefully we can take some momentum from this win into it.

Other than his goal JW was piss-poor. Overall we played decent but once again way too many mistakes to be named here.
Cudicini – Wtf was up with is punches tonight? Is the Gomes virus going around Spurs or something?
Corluka – Just too slow for me he’s a solid defender but once he pushes up he struggles to get back. Also what a stupid play on his part which eventually lead to their goal.
Woodgate – Like I said, piss-poor overall but his tenacity got us a vital goal.
King – Actually really good, maybe the captains band is too much of a burden for him to handle because he played better today than he has in a long time.
BAE – I like this kid I don’t care what anyone says. Sure I’ve bashed him on more than one occasion this year but he has the potential to be something special. His cross was pure class and it lead to a beautiful goal.
Modric – looked lost at times and its clear that the left flank isn’t his preferred position. Of course he was brilliant technically like always but I think he’s 100x more effective in the middle.
Palacios – Not as good as the last matches but once again was a rock in the middle, if it wasn’t for him our defense would have had to face much worse.
Jenas – did his typical houdini disappearing act once again and is basically a total waste of space out on the pitch. Let’s sell him to Inter.
Lennon – played solid throughout and scored a class goal, still needs to work on his crossing though…
Bent – How can you blame this guy? He never got the service at all. While he will probably get ridiculed for this and that I don’t think he was that bad overall and could definitely have scored had he got the opportunity.
Keane – did a lot of running around but nothing really progressive, he broke up plays and created a few dangerous chances when necessary but we need more out of a captain.
Overall we played decent but no where near good enough. I would rather see Bentley on the right and Lennon on the left so we can have Modric and Palacios in the middle. Jenas is just utter shite. We got an ugly three points but sometimes thats the luck you need so I’ll take it. Let’s see what happens against Boro next in a match we should definitely win.

Correction: Cudicini – Wtf was up with his** punches tonight? Is the Gomes virus going around Spurs or something?

a) corluka’s mistake was a good call. that ball had some crazy spin, and he wanted to make sure it didn’t stay in and hit the hull player sprinting forward. it’s just a little unfortunate it hit him right before hitting the ground.
b) cudicini got killed on several plays, including the corner that led to the corner that led to the goal. a lot of his punches/grabs that were screwed up were because someone played him and not the ball.
c) with palacios in the squad, jenas can focus more on attack. he made some great passes, and a few great runs. he definitely didn’t disappear. however, i’d rather have modric in this spot.
d) bent did absolutely nothing (save that one amazing turn around shot). he made horrible runs, offered little help in linking play, and spent a lot of time on the ground for no reason (except for that one punch to the head…..ouch). i’d rather sell bent than jenas right now.

Maybe Spurs are cursed and every goalie is bound to pull a Gomes at least once during a game?

I really think Gomes is a top class keeper, and I am glad Cudicini has arrived at W.H.L, I think this will force Gomes to push himself get back and become Spurs number 1
