Spurs 1 – Magpies 0: A nail in the coffin…
By: Drew | April 19th, 2009
Today saw Darren Bent’s one goal send Newcastle packing back north. The only bittersweet thing about the victory is we could have just seen the straw that broke the camels back…
It took 26 minutes to break the deadlock, and besides Obefemi Martins recalled goal, the ball didn’t see the back of then net the rest of the game.
The vital 3 points for Newcastles Premier league needs, went to Tottenhams Europa League hopes.
The win moves us within 1 point of West Ham, and tied on points with Fulham, meaning that 7th place isn’t too far away if we can just keep up this good run of form.
Two highlights for me, One Alan Hutton came on and played well, and Two Huddlestone’s play in midfield was strong yet again. I actually like the combination of Hudd and Palacios, It gives the midfield a solid wall which leaves Lennon and Modric to have free run into the middle. Not to mention Hudd’s passing has always been rock solid.
Feel free to leave your opinions of the game or anything I might have missed. I’m making this one quick so I can go watch FA Cup semifinal.
We got ManU next, lets hope the fixture congestion makes the game lean in our favor.

I like jenas over huddlestone, but he played well. he had a couple of good chances. Woodgate looked good as well.
considering newcastle usually kills us, this was a solid performance. though we didn’t play our best football, 3 points is 3 points. thise was the types of match we gave away under Ramos

Huddlestone is a classy player: strong, imposing and he dictates play with crisp and adventurous passing. A future England star- he’s still young. To let him go in the summer would be a massive error. I would rather ship Jenas off.

I’ve never given THudd credit for much and never rated him but man, did he ever have an awesome game yesterday. Was I ever wrong when I said him and Palacios wouldn’t work well in the midfield, I mean sure it’s a bit early to get too excited seeing as it was only one match but at the same time I’m pretty happy about what I saw.
Judging from yesterday’s match I’d take Huddlestone over Jenas any day because his passing and movement was solid. He seems to have lost a bit of weight and gained a bit more mobility and as a result had a solid match. Hopefully he can keep up the hard work and repeat his performance next week. I also agree that selling him could be a huge mistake and he needs some time to develop and prove his worth.
It was good to see Hutton back on the pitch after his lengthy injury spell and thought he looked good pushing forward because unlike Corluka he has pace.
Overall a good performance as we totally outclassed the Geordies but at the same time, our lack of goals worries me.

Yeah, it really seems as though Huddlestone has gotten into much better shape, and he played really well over the weekend, and I’m gonna say it again, ever since we’ve signed Palacios to play that central midfield position… we’ve been almost impeccable, and the way that modric and lennon have been terrorizing outside backs has been fantastic as well
we’re only 1 point out of 7th (and that final European spot), so with 5 games remaining, if we maintain our current form, there’s a really good possibility of a return to European football!
