Spurs 1 – Liverpool 3: Thats all she wrote…

By: Drew | May 24th, 2009

In retrospect, I’d have to say that finishing the league in 8th place is miles away from what i was hoping at the beginning of the season. After Ramos led us to only gain 2 points from our first run of games I would’ve taken 17th place happily, But Harry and the team really pulled through for us this time around.

Yeah I’m bummed about not clinching that final Europa League spot, but the more I think about it the more I realize that the less congested fixture list could actually help us with the league performance. Either way I’m confident that we can build on this season over the summer and come back strong next season… as long as we don’t sell all of our good players.

Today’s game Saw goals from Torres, an own goal by Alan Hutton, and Benayoun for Liverpool. But we pulled one back from Robbie Keane who showed class by not celebrating after scoring against the club he started the season with.

Today did mark the return of David Bentley to Spurs first team after Jermaine Jenas went off in the first half with an injury. as well as seeing Darren Bent come on for the first time since he went off injured against Manchester United earlier in the month.

As far as the season goes there are definitely some highlights… The 4-4 with Arsenal, the 1-0 victory over Chelsea, the 2-1 over Liverpool, We definitely gave the big 4 a run for their money this season.
As for me I’ll be keeping you all updated on transfers and team news over the summer, but feel free to leave your favorite memories from the season or any comments you have about where we go from here.

I think thats right – if you would have said at the start of the season Spurs would have finished 8th you’d have felt it was a pretty mediocre-bad season. But after the first half of the season, its a pretty good achievement.

I’m filled with mixed emotions right now. Sevilla finished in third and therefore directly qualified for the UCL next year but then my other beloved club from North London just missed out on the final Europa League spot.

It actually could be a blessing in disguise. As we saw this year, 4 competitions was an awful lot of games to play in one season and we don’t have the depth in our squad to do so with success. I think that we can really focus on the league next year and definitely push up the table. It says something when a team earned more points off the top four in a season than from the bottom three and if we can find some consistency throughout the season we’ll definitely be looking pretty.

It’ll be really exciting to see what happens in the summer transfer window and I hope you Drew, keep us updated on all the stupid rumours and papertalk. It never gets old :)

Hi there – I’m actually a big Ajax supporter, but I just wanted to say how excited many of us are that Martin Jol will be taking the reins next year. I know he was one of Spurs’ most successful/popular managers, and we’re hoping he has similar success in Amsterdam!

I’m definitely excited for Ajax too Mako, Martin was fantastic for us, We never should’ve let him go. He also did a really good job for Hamburg as well. He should do wonders for you guys as he is a very disciplined experienced manager.

I’ll definitely be watching Ajax next year.
