Spurs 1 – Hammers 0: That’s more like it…

By: Drew | April 11th, 2009

I said it in a previous post, Pav needs to play up front with Keane. Just further proving that he should be starting over Bent.

This game saw Tom “the tank” Huddlestone come in and show that he rightly deserves to get more playing time. He showed he’s a more than capable substitute for Palacios, not that most of us needed a reminder…

The first half saw a couple of chances, but nothing that was too convincing. The usual suspects were causing problems for West Ham’s back line, i.e. Modric and Lennon. Surprisingly enough BAE actually had a pretty solid game today, which is good considering I was ready to condemn him to the axe.

After Jenas and Bent were replaced by Zokora and Pav, Everything started to fall into place.

Finally in the 65th minute Pav broke the deadlock with a rocket into the far corner.

We’ve currently got the 8th spot in the league, and we’ll hold it for 24 hours at this point. Fulham and ManCity play tomorrow, no matter what result Spurs are gonna be leapfrogged by one of the teams, So looks like we’ll sit comfortably in 9th for the rest of the week. Regardless I’m very glad to see us inside the top 10.

Also on another happy note, Jermain Defoe will be back in training this week after recovering from his injury, it’ll be nice to have yet another striking option on the team again.

We’ve got the Shearer effect next week, let’s keep it up!

Did you notice how Pav was more effective within 90 seconds than Bent was in 55 minutes?
I have to disagree on BAE though. He was solid defensively, as he has been for a good stretch of games, but he hasn’t met a ball he couldn’t float needlessly up to the opponents’ defenders, and his crosses were mediocre apart from the soft one Bent put wide. I’m wondering if Jamie O’Hara could make the shift to left fullback. He’s always been a hard-working and tenacious player and would be a significant offensive upgrade.

yeah maybe you’re right alex, I kind of feel like Bale should get in there too… he or O’Hara.

I just think if we could take the defensive skill of BAE and the curling free kicks of Bale, we’d have what we need. That being said, I think it’s much more likely that Bale will get better defensively than BAE getting his crosses down.

With a bit of training BAE could come good, he has everything needed to become a solid wingback and hopefully he’ll get the chance.

Pav HAS TO start next game, Bent obviously for some reason lacks confidence and has lost his scoring touch. Pav has a point to prove and showed why he should start today, if ‘Arry knows what he’s doing, he’ll give him the nod next weekend against shitecastle.

I have mixed reactions about Hudd. He was solid today, no doubt, but at the same time how can you have him and Palacios playing together? That’s too defensive for my liking. There isn’t a doubt in my mind when it comes to Jenas being shite but at the same time we need some offensive capabilities in the centre of the park. If we had a proper left winger then Modric could play ahead of Palacios.

Drew also a question for you if I may. Would it be possible for me to start doing match previews? I know that neither you nor Sam do and I just think they would be nice to have. Let me know what you think. Don’t want to take over or anything like that, just a thought.
