Spurs 1 – Chelski 0!!!!
By: Drew | March 21st, 2009
Before the Aston Villa match I looked at the fixture list for the next couple of games and thought to myself
“well Villa has been struggling, and we’ve been doing pretty well so i could see us getting a draw. Then looking at the Chelsea game I thought well Hiddink has been doing really well but if we play a lot of people behind the ball we could get a point there too.”
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that i don’t have faith in our beloved side, but top clubs are a little intimidating and I didn’t want to get my hopes up. 6 POINTS FROM A POSSIBLE 6!!!!!!!! Not to mention 3 of which came from a London rival!
We fielded a squad much the same to that which saw off Villa last week. The only change was Corluka starting this match instead of Zokora(thank god).
The match saw both sides with a lot of sloppy possession of the ball, but Spurs were definitely the hungrier of the two. It almost seemed that Chelsea just expected an easy win so they didn’t feel like they needed to put much effort in. Little did they know that they’d be facing a Spurs side that is riding high on a good streak of form.
Luka Modric was easily man of the match, he was everywhere and absolutely clinical with his passing. Gomes also played extremely well keeping the ball out of the net all day while facing relentless Chelsea attacks. Our speedy right winger Aaron Lennon also had a fairly good game today causing all kinds of trouble for cAshley Cole, and ultimately setting up Modric’s goal.

The game went back and forth for the entire first half, but as I said before Tottenham was definitely the more trying of the teams. Finally in the 50th minute Aaron Lennon latched on to a long ball on the right side and fed it into Luka Modric who fired a curling rocket from 15 yards out. His goal proved to be enough to see off Chelski, but only after a barrage of chances from the opposition for the last 20 minutes. Modric eventually was subbed out for Jamie O’Hara, and left the field to a standing ovation. I think the substitution was due to a collision with Michael Ballack. Didier Zokora did see some time at the very end of the game coming in for Aaron Lennon.

Speaking of our current on-form winger, Mr. Lennon also signed a new contract this last week seeing him stick around for the next 5 years at the lane. I think I speak for everyone when I say We’re glad to have you Aaron, and we hope to see you keep doing your thing.
This win see’s Spurs jump to a massive 9th place! 6 games without a loss and we’re tied with Wigan on points, and Man city are only 3 points behind us. Both teams play tomorrow, so if the stars align correctly then we can stick around in the top 10.
Blackburn next week, lets keep this going boys!

There was this one incredible moment, where Assou-Ekotto blew his own mind with the moves that he was trying to put on and still didn’t lose possession, where I knew it was going to happen.

Nobody seems to have noticed with all the praise going to Lennon and Modric, but the person who really set up the goal was Jonathan Woodgate. His header from the center circle off a Chelsea clearance went 40 yards diagonally and led Lennon perfectly. Not only did this go completely unmentioned on the FSC broadcast and the MOTD highlights, it didn’t even make it into a single replay, all of which start with the ball already out on the wing.

Alex. I think Bosingwa deserves the credit for our goal, that idiot kept the ball in which eventually was cleared out to Woodgate, well, and then you know the rest from there.
