Spurs 1 Blackburn 0: Who Needs Robbo? (Wait, No One Does.)

By: Sam | November 23rd, 2008

There goes the cleverness of my headline. Ironically, our first encounter with Paul Robinson since he left this summer only produced one goal (which wasn’t the goalkeeper’s fault, at that). Thanks to Aaron Lennon’s charge and Roman Pavlyuchenko’s finish on nine minutes, we’re now in fifteenth spot, three points down from ninth spot and nine down from a Champions League berth.

I just got back from a weekend away from home, so unfortunately could not check out the game. However, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out the major talking points. Apparently Lennon had a fantastic match, if his help on the first goal and in Olson’s sending-off weren’t hint enough. Harry kept his prize four of the moment (Corluka, King, Woodgate, Assou-Ekotto) at the back and it seems the last one on the list there didn’t shoot himself in the foot nearly as much as he did in the last few games. Also, Gomes didn’t concede any goals, even though he didn’t have much to do.

Although we dominated in the second half by a long shot with the man advantage, we couldn’t add a second even if we should have (Campbell, Woodgate). But anyway, a win is a win is a win. Next thursday we’re off to the land of funny last names to take on Nijmegen. You could say I’m fairly confident about that. I’ll have more this week. For now take it easy and COYS!

Watched the game, pretty good first half but the second half was flat. It was injustice to take of Pav as he was one of our best players today, Bent was lost for some reason and should have been substituted for Cambell. Bentley was extremely lazy today and honestly he didn’t do a thing except put in one good ball in which Pav hit the post. Jenas did his typical houdini disappearing act and was barely noticable out there. BAE was absolute shite, caught out of position almost everytime but I guess because of Bale’s inability of late he was just the logical lesser of two evils. Either way a good three points although not convincing seeing as Blackburn was down to 10 men for over half the game… COYS

yeah i saw the game as well, BAE really needs the boot. i vote we by a new side back and a new defensive mid and all will be gravy. unless of course the rumors about Sir alex wanting Campbell back are true, in which case another young striker might be necessary. over all i’m glad with the results and look forward to breaking the top 10. Come on you Spurs!

Drew we have T-Hudd for our defensive mid role but I do agree we need a left back. Bale is going to be a hell of a player but hes good going forward and weak defensively, we should slowly nurture him into that LM role and I think over time he’ll get it right. Wayne Bridge for LB anybody ?

Ah well then I guess BAE did play like shit. He just seems to be thinking “They’ll thank me when this actually works… Oh shit, he’s got the ball and he’s past me” all the time.

yeah hudd is pretty rock solid, i suppose a LB is first on the list of purchases for ‘arry and then the possible striker option. i totally spaced zakora too. he can play DM pretty well too. any votes for a fit striker for us? i’m thinkin another young player like giovani to nurture.

I’m a rovers supporter and went to the game on sunday, sitting with the your season tikt holders. Gotta say I’ve been impressed with Hudd recently and I think Bent was causing a few problems with his movement up front and Bentley although he didnt do much, seemed confused playing on the left, could have had 3 assists (2 free kicks and campbell header).I’m thinking you need another striker regardless of campbell going or staying, and one with experience, not a young’un.
ps. respect for the reception Robbo got, I was surprised at how amazing it actually was.
