Spurs 1 – Baggies 0: Was there ever any doubt?
By: Drew | May 2nd, 2009
…Yes, yes there was some doubt during this game. West brom being a team that carved up Sunderland last week was riding high on confidence when they strolled into White Hart Lane.
Luckily for us confidence can only help a team, and if it’s a team like WBA, it can only do so much.
Tonight’s line up saw only one change, and one that we all knew was coming, that being Pavlyuchenko coming in for Bent who is out with an injury.
I won’t sugar coat it…. our strikers were pretty miserable today. For the amount of chances that Modric and Lennon created it was really surprising that we didn’t take this game by 4 goals. Defoe came in for Pav in the 65th minute and made his first performance since being out with a fractured bone in his foot. Immediately after returning from injury Jermain also experienced a tragedy in the family which prolonged his absence even longer, Best regards to the Defoe Family.
Jermaine Jenas was the unlikeliest of hero’ s on the afternoon for slotting the only goal of the match home jut before half time. It’ll be interesting to see what JJ does next season considering the lack of play time he got earlier in the season, and all the rumors of him leaving in the summer.
Defoe later found the target, but was ruled offside by the linesmen.
All in all I’m happy with 3 points, but a little upset that we didn’t demolish like I was hoping.

Spurs, Fulham, and ManCity are all tied on 47 points now, and West Ham is only one point ahead of all of us in 7th place. Needless to say it but Europa league is in spitting distance and we can definitely get there.
We’ve got Everton away next game, so it should be quite the challenge, but I’m confident that we can take something from it. The week after next will be a big one with us facing ManCity at home and could very well help decide who gets the Europa league spot.

Being a Spurs supporter there is always doubt my friend.
All in all though we played a solid match and thoroughly deserved to win and in all honesty should have easily had about 6 more goals. West Brom actually aren’t a bad squad but their final touch seriously let them down more times than not.
Jenas’ goal was precisely what we need from him and Defoe’s definitely wasn’t offside like it was flagged for.
That’s our fourth 1-0 win at home in a row I believe which is good to see we’re keeping clean sheets but at the same time we need more from our men up top to finish these relegation battlers off.
