Robbie is ‘Mr Tottenham’

By: Gary | May 28th, 2008

It has been somewhat of a milestone season for Keano at Spurs this season.

He has established himself as the main man up top under Juande Ramos, he knocked in his 100th Spurs goal in January against Sunderland, he claimed his first piece of silverware for the club in February and wrestled back the player of the season trophy from fellow strike partner Dimitar Berbatov at the end of the campaign.

The 23-goal striker can draw a line under this season knowing it has been a job well done, as he has warmed himself closer to the Spurs fans hearts.

Attention this week switched to international duty for the Irishman but in today’s press conference it was still his beloved Spurs which formed the major discussion point.

The 27-year-old declared how happy he is with life at White Hart Lane, and hinted at ending his career in Spurs colours, or at least staying at the club for as long as he is wanted.

Signed by Glenn Hoddle back in 2002, many fans may have expected a flying visit from the talented striker, who at the age of just 22 had already had spells with Wolves, Coventry City, Inter Milan and Leeds United.

Keane had found it hard to settle but five years after arriving at the Lane, it is clear to see he has found his home.

He is loved by the fans for his effort and commitment, and his goalscoring record isn’t bad either, having already stormed past the century mark.

More or more people continue to say he is the most under-rated striker in the Premier League, but with so many players now recognising his vast talent, I think we can see he is very highly rated, and rightly so.

Keane is a ‘Tottenham Great’ in the making, although in some people’s eyes, he has already achieved legendary status at the club.

There is something extremely refreshing about the attitude of Robbie Keane. While other players in the Premier League go hunting for the golden nugget, Keane has built a special bond with the White Hart Lane club and fans.

Let us not forget, it has not always been plain sailing for the vice-skipper either.

There have been plenty of fans who at one point or another have regarded ‘Defoe and Kanoute’, ‘Defoe and Mido’ and even ‘Defoe and Berbatov as our strongest strike partnership.

Everton and Aston Villa to my knowledge have both chased his signature in the past but Keane has stayed strong, won his starting place and proved himself time and time again. He has worked for his position at the club. And, after his comments in the media today, it is safe to say – Robbie Keane is now ‘Mr Tottenham’.

You are a Spurs legend.

Robbie Keane, we salute you!

I’m from Brazil, and I’ll write the coment in portuguese, because my english isn’t so good:

Eu concordo com vocês. Keane é muito bom, uma lenda! Devido meu inglês um tanto precário entendi em partes o texto do post. Espero que Keane posso continuar conosco no Tottenham e continuar trabalhando bem como sempre.
Eu sei que parece estranho um brasileiro escrevendo e fã do Tottenham, mas é verdade. Sou super fã do Tottenham, e me entristeço por existir tão poucos artigos esportivos do Tottenham aqui no Brasil.

I thinked the blog so good! Congratulations! Continue forever! Hugs from Brazil for you!! Thanks for all!!

Robbie Keane is a fantastic footballer. He is more important to Spurs than Berbatov, Lennon or King in my eyes. He is the key to everything. His spirit, techinique and experienced, added to a fine scoring record, make him one of the best players in the Premiership.

Keane is to Spurs what Rooney is to United.
‘Robbie Keane we salute you’ indeed.
