Ramos reels in Luka Modric

Nothing like swooping in and grabbing the player you want right off the bat. If you missed it, Tottenham Hotspur have signed Dinamo Zagrab and Croatian Attacking Midfielder Luka Modric for a fee reported to be around 15.8 million on a five year deal, though many sources report the fee will climb a bit over the 20 million pound mark once a few clauses pay out.

So there you have it. We’ve begun to address the need for a few quality midfielders with Modric. He has the ability to play both on the left as he does with Dinamo Zagreb or in the middle as he does with Croatia. Odds are he will be playing in the middle for Spurs, where we need help desperately.

Modric pointed out Juande Ramos as the main factor for coming to Spurs. “I am very lucky and proud to be here in London at Tottenham. I am also happy that the coach Juande Ramos wanted me, it is the most important thing that the coach wants you as a player. I want to show that I have the quality for Tottenham and the English Premier League and help the club achieve big results.”

Spurs beat out Newcastle United for the signature of the 22 year old as well as a few other, as yet, unnamed teams (Chelsea?). ” It is right that many clubs in England were interested in taking me, but my favourite from the first meeting was Tottenham because I am a big fan of coach Ramos.”

There you have it. Spurs have yet again splashed the cash in hopes of breaking into the Champions League. Is Modric the answer? Well, he may be part of the answer as Spurs midfield is definitely the area of need. Now for a new tackling midfielder and left wing! COYS!

P.S. I’m not going to touch our fourth lackluster 1-1 draw in a row… Though I was upset with the play of Jenas in particular… Funny that news of Modric’s signing came the same day as yet another disappointing outing by Jenas…. hmmmmm

At some point some one had to tell him ’stop with the 60 yard passes that cruise out of play’….. I didn’t even want to touch how horrid his free kick was on the edge of the area…. He hasn’t put a kick on goal on a set piece in MONTHS… what a joke… I could go on and on. That’s really why I didn’t touch it Matt… It was just ridiculous.

Jenas was on good form earlier in the season. But he’s showing his true colours now. He’s just a nothing player, I’m not sure what he really brings to any team. Modric should see him shoved out of your first team.

I’d be after Arshavin for the left wing, he’s been quality for Zenit in the UEFA Cup. And why not grab the goalie there, Malafeev, as well? Hunt down some Bayern Zenit highlights and you’ll see what I mean.

Arshavin is on my wish list Sheps… so is Marco Amelia. He’s fantastic! If we nabbed those two, a central defender such as Jarque and a hard tackling midfielder who has the ability to lead like a proper defensive midfielder should I think we’d be set…. If Berba goes, we get a tidy sum for him, replace him with a David Villa and we can possibly look to push for a much higher spot on the table in 08/09… plus maybe win a bit of silverware!

I’m already looking forward to watching play develop BEFORE it touches Berb’s foot. Whether he stays or goes, it should be a fantastic and refreshing style-change in the middle third!

    COYS!

spurs need a really top class goalkeeper robinson is a very very good keeper … but is there another Pat Jennings out there somewhere .. Jennings was the best keeper ever to play in england spurs need someone who can claim the keepers jersey year after year the way Pat Jennings used to do — its now 31 years since pat left spurs —and bar the odd few years they have never really replaced him …. god jennings was good … and you know what he looks today as if he could still put in a top class performance… my message to spurs FIND A NEW PAT JENNINGS… i am an arsenal fan .. and we missed him too when he retired .
