Newcastle 2 – Spurs 1…

By: Drew | December 21st, 2008

I’m so livid i can’t even begin to explain my anger…

Our visit to the north seemed a pretty even match up prior to kick off, which proved to be the truth throughout the game. Possession was even all over the pitch with both sides countering on the break so often that it was like watching a ball during a game of tennis.

In the 11th minute Shay Given booted the ball down field to Charles N’zogbia, who was able to pick himself up after being dragged down by Assou-Ekotto only to slot it home from 12 yards.

Possession continued to stay pretty even when in the 28th minute Dawson(who more than proved he’s worthy of a starting spot after keeping Owen quiet the whole game) chipped it clear of Newcastle’s backline, where a very cool Roman Pavlyuchenko realized he was offside and left the ball for Luka Modric who fired home his second goal in 2 games (his first in the league).

Just before halftime Pavlyuchenko had a good attempt from the corner of the box but it was saved by Shay Given at the near post. After 1 minute of stoppage time both teams went in to the changing rooms wanting a second goal.

The second half was full of chances for Spurs and Newcastle with both sides fighting to get the lead. In the 64h minute Harry subbed out Pavlyuchenko for Fraizer Campbell, which I personally feel was a mistake considering Pavs took far more advantage of his chances in the end.

The best chance for Spurs to take the lead was in the 84th minute when Bently(who looked a little better this game) played the ball in to Lennon who whipped in a perfect cross, only to be missed by Campbell.

In the 87th minute Joe Kinnear Subbed out Enrique for Duff to try and bolster their attack. This decision proved to be Spurs’ undoing. Duff drove forward a minute before regular time was up and played a one-two to Viduka, who’s cheeky back-heel sent set Duff up for a 1v1 with Gomes. The ball rolled past the keeper to make it 2-1 to Newcastle.

Unfair result, it really sucks. We dominated throughout the game, SHITEcastle could barely keep hold of the ball at many points throughout the second half. It must be said though, very poor defending for both goals. Redknapp needs to address this in the January window. Also, Campbell missed two sitters, absolutely ridiculous, send him back to manUre and get a proper striker or two in the window. Bentley can’t cross his t’s, it’s ridiculous, I really don’t know what we can do with him… MOTM for me I guess would go to Lennon once again who created havoc whenever he ran down the right flank.

yeah campbell is a good prospect but we’re wasting our time because he is ManU’s prospect, not ours. Pav’s should have stayed in the second half.

and oddly enough we’re getting rid of defenders, check out this from tottenham’s site.

Drew, I actually feel bad for Stalteri, I’ll never forget that rocket against Leister in the FA Cup, and the goal in the last minute against the spammers. One of the many players Juande decided to leave in the dark. We could have really used his experience in the UEFA Cup this year. Thanks a lot Juande, thanks a lot.

    Roll on January…
