More transfer Rumors

By: Lucas | April 24th, 2007

As always, I have nothing better to write about, so I’ll provide speculation on who’s coming into the team.

Gareth Bale- According to the always-reliable Tribal Football, Spurs will have a clear shot at Bale over the summer. Remember, this was said without a source given, but it would be nice if we could get a decent young left back into the side. As I’ve said before, we need someone who can provide a decent free-kick, and he can certainly do that. Of course, if that is true, than you’ve got to wonder why Manchester United have given up on him. Is it because he looks like a fucking monkey? Quite possibly, because with Wayne Rooney starting they’ve got their ugly quota all filled.

Kim Kallstrom- I know he’s Swedish, I know he plays for Lyon, and I know that in FIFA 2007 he’s decent. But as the good people at Caught Offside pointed out, we should be looking for players who are more than decent.

Peter Crouch- He’s tall, can do the hold-up thing pretty well and has an improbably outstanding scoring rate. He started his career with Spurs, and he’s rumored to be on his way out of Liverpool. I always think he kind of sucks, and then he goes and scores more goals. I don’t really get it, myself, but his record speaks for itself, and we could use someone who can reliably finish. Of course I must wonder, how is someone who is consistently about six inches taller than his opponents be so mediocre in the air? Again, I don’t get it.

Miroslav Klose- This is the one that intrigues me. Like Crouch, he’s huge and scores goals like Frank Lampard eats cookies. (Zing! Come to think of it, actually, he has a pretty sweet rack. Give us a call sometime, Frank, and wear a mask.) Klose was the leading scorer at last summer’s World Cup, and apparently might be leaving Werder Bremen. If we could afford him, I’d love to have him on the team. Klose famously also has given away chances at possible penalties when he felt that fouls were not given. It would be nice to have a good guy in the squad. (I’m looking at you, Mido, you twat.)

So there you have it.

I saw the Kallstrom rumors too. They’ve been on and off throughout the year, but I don’t think there is much truth in it.

Kallstrom is a good player who will only get better given time and training. He’s a big Swedish farmboy, strong, an excellent tackler with a fierce left foot shot, and is a burgeoning playmaker. But he’s not fast, and I don’t think he and the EPL would be a good fit.

I suspect both Kallstrom and Martin Jol know it too, so these Kallstrom rumors are probably just hot air.

What about Heinze? Isn’t his contract up, and wouldn’t he serve as both a left back, and depth in the center? I love his rugged style, and I think he would fit well with the team.
