Match Preview- Tottenham Hotspur V. Seville
By: Lucas | April 4th, 2007Alright, hombres, here’s where the going gets tough and the tough get going, as it were, where the winners are presented and the losers go home to touch themselves and sob. That’s right, it’s the UEFA Cup quarterfinals. Seville are the holders and they have Spain’s leading scorer- ex-Spur Fredi Kanoute, and Daniel Alves at right back, and from what I’ve seen Lee is going to need to play well over his head on the left to stop Alves. He’s in the tradition of the great Brazilian full-backs- he attacks like a winger, and not unlike Roberto Carlos, he is ridiculous off of free kicks. Needless to say, we need a big game from Lee.
It has been said that this is effectively the final, but I’m not sure- Bayer Leverkusen are always dangerous, and the winner of this gets them in the semi-final. With that said we need a good performance in this first leg, something to take back to White Heart Lane. We need Berbatov and Defoe or Keane to put their scoring boots on, we need Zokora to control the middle, we need Jenas to play like he cares- we need Chimbonda marauding down the right flank, and Dawson clearing everything out of defense, and whoever the fuck plays alongside Dawson to hold his head up. Robinson needs to be mistake-free- as does Martin Jol. The last thing we need is Mido coming out after half time, wiping mustard off of his shirt, and dicking around for thirty minutes. We do, in fact, need all of these things.
With all that said I can see us doing well. I can see see Dawson doing his best against Kanoute and marshaling the the defense behind him, Zokora surging upfield with the ball glued to his right foot, and of course I can see Lennon tearing down the right and no Seville defender can keep pace with him and the cross is in to Berbatov and, well, there you have it. Spurs, if you’re going to prove yourselves, now is the time.
