By: Jay | July 16th, 2007Although it looks like we will be signing Kevin-Prince Boateng, even though it is mysteriously quiet despite the player wanted to join up and a bid being accepted, we have been linked with Freddy Adu. The American teenager has had his name in the same sentence has Tottenham Hotspur which has had news sources and fans alike scrambling for confirmation. However, expect nothing to materialise. This is a clear example of how the rumour mill sends people crazy, fabricating links left, right and centre.
As the Copa America is over, I feel its worth mentioning the name of Juan Roman Riquelme. If the Boateng deal does fall apart (unlikely) or even if it doesn’t, I’d love club to show its intent by trying to sign this guy. On loan at Boca Juniors from Villareal, he scored 5 in the Copa America for his team, and laid on a few as well. He recently won the Copa Libertadoes almost single-handedly for Boca, and after falling out with the Villareal management, is likely to be sold by the Spanish club. I wonder if he could play in England, whether his style would be able to deal with the pace and strength. Also, I’m sure several other clubs in Spain and Italy would be looking at him, and perhaps he would prefer that sort of move. Still, I can dream….
Time for one more? Christian Rodriguez of Uruguay and PSG is a 21 year old left winger who did pretty well in the Copa America. He has a weird nickname but it when you know why, its f*cking brilliant. He’s known as ‘The Onion’ because he makes the opposing defenders cry. Cue images of Emmanuel Eboue dabbing his eyes with a tissue.
Hossam Ghaly has a very interested party in Birmingham City. When we played them last pre-season in a friendly Steve Bruce wasn’t distracted by Berbatov’s classy goal, and took note of the Egyptian midfielder. His future was doomed when he treated the White Shirt with such disrespect during last season; his punishment is to go to Birmingham. Nasty.
