Klaas or Crouch?

By: Drew | July 19th, 2009

I guess in my mind it isn’t even a question…
But It’s all over the news that these are our two possible summer signings. It’s said that Klaas-Jan is the preference for Harry and that Crouch is our back up idea, but with no bids officially made for either, and it’s being said that both have official bids from other clubs makes me think these chances will go begging.

Real Madrid have accepted a bid from Stuttgart, and Crouch has been talking to Sunderland and Blackburn. I’m not quite sure why Harry and Daniel Levy haven’t been all over the possibility of signing Huntelaar as he and Defoe up front would be deadly together. We can then offload Bent to whoever is interested.

I understand the appeal of Crouchy as he is a good target man, and has premier league experience. But let’s stack their statistics together and see what we find…

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
Years Club Apps (Gls)
2002–2004 PSV 1 (0)
2003 De Graafschap (loan) 9 (0)
2003–2004 AGOVV (loan) 35 (26)
2004–2005 Heerenveen 46 (33)
2005–2008 Ajax 92 (76)
2008– Real Madrid 20 (8)

Peter Crouch
Years Club App (Gls)
1998–2000 Tottenham Hotspur 00 0(0)
2000 Dulwich Hamlet (loan) 06 0(1)
2000 IFK Hässleholm (loan) 08 0(3)
2000–2001 Queens Park Rangers 42 (10)
2001–2002 Portsmouth 37 (18)
2002–2004 Aston Villa 37 0(6)
2003 Norwich City (loan) 15 0(4)
2004–2005 Southampton 27 (12)
2005–2008 Liverpool 85 (22)
2008– Portsmouth 35 (11)

Very interesting isn’t it? both have advantages, but I know who my choice would be. What about you guys?

I hope Huntelaar will finally sign in Stuttgart as we really want him and Tottenham is even too stupid to make an offer.

It looks like Huntelaar is holding off on going to Germany as long as he can but we don’t have that much time if we really do want to sign him. He’s obvious class, from his days at Ajax to his few performances in Madrid, you can see the boy’s got talent. As much as I think Crouch is a terrible footballer, this man always seems to get the lucky goals and the ones that matter so I think it could be very interesting to see what he could do at the Lane. Personally I’d take Klaas, but maybe we’d find a strange solution to our strike problems in the form of Crouch.

How many strikers do you guys need? Toni, Klaas (not klass) and Ruud (not rudd)?? Aswell as Pav, Bent (likely on his way, Keane and Defoe. You’re not Man City, you will play 2 up front I’m guessing, so there is not point having more than 4.

I would go for Crouch. I like Klaas, but dont be fooled by his goal record. The dutch league doesnt show whether a player is great or not. Ask Middlesborough!
