Hutton Deal Done; Villa to take Spurs Refuse
By: Richard | January 30th, 2008
I hate January. All the rumors of players coming and going, it gets me sick. In a few short hours it will be over but until then the speculation continues as do the transfers.
Spurs completed their signing of right-back Alan Hutton today for a reported 9 million pounds. Hutton is big, strong, fast and young. What more could you ask for? It did take quite a bit of prodding and pushing to get him to leave Rangers but isn’t it refreshing to see a young talented player put the love of a club above money alone? There’s been rumors that his wife is expecting and he didn’t want to move at this point of her pregnancy, etc. But Spurs knew they wanted Hutton and finally got him. The nice thing about the signing of both Hutton and Woodgate is the fact that neither are cup tied. Hutton only played in Champions League matches even though Rangers are now in the UEFA cup and Woodgate never played in the Carling Cup. With Gilberto’s signing seemingly right around the corner Spurs defense will look different, now I’m just hoping they play different.
Aston Villa Football Club are apparently doubling as a waste disposal company with the news that they are interested in both Kevin Prince-Boateng and Wayne Routledge. Boateng’s stay at the Lane will sure be a short one having just come over from Hertha Berlin last summer and I’ve been less then impressed with the young midfielder during his time with Spurs. As I said a few blogs back, he just runs himself into the ground and tries to do too much. Last weekend during the FA cup tie with Manchester United, Boateng came came into the game and proceeded to give the ball right back to the opposition each and every time he had a touch. He’s just trying to do way too much and with all the new talent coming in to support our defense it’s not as if players who deserve time on the pitch like Huddlestone or Zokora (once the Cup of Nations is over that is) will be getting any minutes at the back filling in for injured players. No, they’ll be looking for minutes in the midfield where they belong and that makes a player like Boateng the odd man out. Bad signing? Well, if the amount of 4.5 million was what we paid and 3.5 is what we accepted from Villa then yeah, horrible signing! Villa are also showing interest in Wayne Routledge. I say have him. He’s been given chances, failed, and needs to move on. COYS!

Being American I can just imagine how shocked I’d be if I went to bed at 10 or 11 last night only to wake up and read all that. Stalteri loaned, Gardner loaned, Defoe sold, and Gilberto in…. All within the last hour or two.

Alan Hutton shows he is the rigth man for Spurs. his performance against MU was excellent.
With Woodgate coming in, our defence is improving by miles.
Too bad that MU steal a point from us at the dying minute, 93rd.
But the performance of our boys worthy of a salute.
