Ghetto Kid Signs
By: Jay | July 31st, 2007article can also be found at Park Lane Spurs

Just before sitting down for dinner, I made a quick visit to the Tottenham Hotspur website. Apart from noticing that Spurs now run their own Fantasy Football League, I also saw a certain Kevin-Prince Boateng wearing the beloved shirt. In a transfer that costs somewhere in the region of £4.5m - £5.7m (depending on who you believe), the creative midfielder has bolstered the midfield ranks of the club. The self-named ‘Ghetto Kid’, so-called because of his upbringing in a poor area of Berlin, will bring creativity and strength to the squad. At 20 years of age, he fits in well to Martin Jol’s youth policy, and described in Germany as one of the best talents in the Bundesliga, we could have ourselves a real gem.
I don’t want to get carried away though. Can he be a success at Spurs? Can he hack it in the Premiership? Just how many games will he get? Needless to say, however, that someones Spurs career is over. I’m looking at Danny Murphy.

“Ghetto kid” sounds degrading. Does Boateng like that nickname? I am not trying to be politically correct or anything I am just wondering what he thinks of that nickname.

He named himself ‘Ghetto Kid’ because he had a tough upbringing in a poverty-stricken district in Berlin. I think he may even have a tattoo somewhere that says ‘Ghetto Kid’ in German, but I can’t be sure of that.

Yup, he calls himself Ghetto Kid and it’s part of his “I’m a tough cool Gangsta Rapper kind of guy” image he tries to sell. Calling Berlin-Wedding (the part of Berlin where he comes from) a ghetto is a bit ridiculous though as is his whole posture.
Anyway, talented player that didn’t do anything special last season and I think Tottenham may have paid Berlin a couple of millions too much there.
