Club Crests: Beating a dead horse…
By: Drew | February 24th, 2009
For those of you who haven’t heard(although how you haven’t I’m not sure) European clubs have officially asked theoffside.com to remove Club Crests from the website until we get permission from each club individually.
I recently sent the email as per request of Daryl and all the other awesome staff at the site, Expecting to hear back from Spurs after a week or so. Now when I thought about it originally, I asked myself “Why wouldn’t a club let a blog use their crests? It’s free advertising!”.
Apparently I was wrong…
My request was answered back almost instantaneously with a no from the club…
Dear Drew,
Thanks for your email.
I regret that we are unable to grant permission for you to use our Club badge on your website. We only normally grant this permission to our partners, sponsors and licence holders.
Regards
Xxxx
Followed by another reiteration of a no from someone else in the Tottenham PR department…
Dear Drew
Thank you for your email regarding the use of the Club’s logo at Spurs.theoffside.com.
We really appreciate you asking, as many do not, and understand you wanting to do so to show support for the Club. Your intention not to be official is understood, but by using the logo in any capacity and us agreeing to it, it becomes so. We have to monitor very closely everything that is endorsed by the Club and can not do so on the blog network, which is why we can not agree to it’s use in this way.
Regards

So What does all this mean? Apparently Spurs are way too concerned with making cash off of anything and everything they can. But who am I to judge? They’ll need all they can to pay for all the transfer market activity in January.

Boo, Spurs smells!
I suggest we form a petition to each club rejecting to show them how many people they’re rubbing the wrong way!

I never understood the big deal about this. The Premier League and all the clubs are a joke. This stuff doesn’t even faze me anymore.
