Arsene hails Spurs signing Modric
By: Gary | June 1st, 2008
For those of you who read the News of the World today, it may have surprised you to see Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger praising Tottenham summer capture, Luka Modric.
Is the Frenchmen feeling unwell? I am not complaining.
The boss of our fierce rivals claims our newly acquired Croatian can spearhead his country to Euro 2008 success this summer, such is his fine talent.
He says, Modric’s ability to create and link up with the forwards at pace make him a very dangerous proposition in this year’s competition.
It is always nice to receieve praise for a player, but when it comes from such a source as your near neighbours boss, then I suppose it is that extra bit special.
Wenger is one of the finest managers in European football. There is no question about that. His ability to judge a players quality is second to none. So, for him to hail Modric, means a lot. In my eyes, it is a rubber stamp of approval on our big money signing.
It is scarce for kind comments to be exchanged across the borders of north London, so for the Frenchmen to break this trend, I am thinking Modric must be a very special player indeed.
Wenger is a manager many Spurs fan hate, but this feeling comes from jealousy I am 100 per cent sure. He has done wonders with Arsenal in his tenure and right under Spurs noses. It has been a torrid time for the White Hart Lane faithful. While Spurs have captured two League Cup’s in the last decade, the Gunners have scooped Premier League, FA Cup and European success. It is quite sickening, and many fans want to know when our Arsene Wenger will arrive.
So, to earn his approval on £16.5 million star Modric, for me, shows we are moving in the right direction. Today was a day to forget the hatred and accept overwheming praise from a very talented coach.
Maybe at last, we are signing the type of quality player who have brought Arsenal its recent success.
Thank You Arsene, but you will never earn image status on this Spurs blog. Let’s look at Luka once more…
Good Luck this summer, the whole of Spurs is behind you!

We probably do not need it Paul, but I think it shows we are moving in the right direction.
for years arsenal have laughed at our signings – it doesn’t bother me too much. But it is nice to see we are signing top players now. You can only respect Wenger’s opinions
As long as he doesn’t make a habit of commenting on our players
