Appiah…..Yes? No? ….What?
By: Drew | February 3rd, 2009
So it’s a well documented fact at this point that former Fenerbahce Midfielder, and Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has been training with Spurs over the last month or so. A lot of talk about whether Harry will add him to the club has been all over and quite frankly, I had my hopes up.
Especially when I read this report, stating a time frame for Harry to make some sort of decision. I thought “surely this means Appiah will be in a Spurs shirt before the window shuts.”
…Then all went quiet after Wednesday(the supposed day of the decision). I thought “hmm… Maybe they’ll wait to announce it at the end of the window”
Then this bullshit “exclusive report” shows up on Setanta. Stating that Harry was just simply too busy spending all the money in the world, and has put it off. But apparently now that we’ve bought back a lot of players and added a really expensive center Mid, Harry can turn his focus back to Appiah.(note the lack of sources, quotes, and all around clarity of the article)
He’s free, He’s played champions league football, and Finally he’s the captain of his national team, So my question is this… Does fitness really affect the signing of this guy that much? I mean I understand if he hasn’t recovered from his injury; but if it’s just a question of being in shape, I really have trouble seeing why we don’t just sign him and get him nice and fit.
He’s pure class, and it seems Harry knows that… at least i hope so. Luckily for us this isn’t a deal that is restricted by time. I just hope we don’t get him nice and fit again, only for him to be fed up with our indecisiveness, Because I can guarantee there are other clubs that will want him.
COME ON HARRY! SIGN HIM!

Sign this guy. We need people with experience on the squad.
Also, why are so many posts from Saudi Arabia?

It seems strange that despite his injury and subsequent layoff from surgery, that he would still be a great signing for any team. I find it hard to believe his fitness levels are terrible, and seeing as how he was one of the fittest men on the Juventus team under Capello, it isnt far fetched to believe that he could easily regain match fitness with proper training. I think that alot of EPL managers are baulking at his wages, seeing as how he is perceived as just another African player, who are usually very cheap imports from France. Im not saying its racism, but it seems there is a level of distrust in EPL managers of African players, even if he is the Ghana captain.

I laughed when I read that stupid article on Setanta, its the same shit we already knew just typed again. Poor poor journalism. I guess since the transfer window is over they have nothing better to write about.
Anyhow in all honesty I would sign this man up on the spot, he’s an all around class act. I haven’t seen any of him since his injury but I remember him for Ghana and for Fenerbahçe (when they beat my beloved Sevilla) and he’s an absolute beast in the midfield. I think an important question to ask is how does he fit in our current squad? With Palacios and Modric most likely to play in the middle where will he play? The only thing I can think of is playing Modric on the left like he used to at the beginning of his career (and still can) and Appiah and Palacios in the middle, other than that I don’t see him fitting in unless he’s used as a super-sub.

It looks like its fallen through, apparently he’s training in Ukraine with Metalist Kharkiv (sp?), kinda sucks but whatever, I don’t see how he’d fit in the team now that we have Palacios.
