News – Transfers
By: Jay | June 28th, 2007The prolonged wait over Darren Bent is seems to be nearly over, he is expected to officially sign as early as Friday. However, that’s been the story for a while so don’t hold your breath. A fee of around £16m-17m has been agreed. I’ll be glad when the whole thing is over with so we can concentrate on the upcoming pre-season fixtures with a couple of new signings. But as one extra-long transfer saga ends, another begins as the future of Jermain Defoe will take the spotlight. Big Martin will have 4 excellent strikers for him to play about with, but undoubtedly the top pair will be Berba and Keane.
Yep, Younes Kaboul should be joining within the next 48 hours, fingers crossed. He is quoted as saying that he ‘loves Spurs’ and is desperate to join up with the Lilywhites. I’m not sure how much of that is just so he is allowed to leave his current club, so take it with a pinch of salt. However, it is more progress on the transfer front.
Deals for both, Bent and Kaboul, can be completed by the end of tomorrow… we hope.
Additionally, 18 year old Athletic Bilbao striker Yuri Berbiche is ready to move to the Lane having fallen out with the coach. He didn’t score in the league last season for the Rojiblancos so info on his ability is limited. It seems as though the deal is done, so at least that’s been finalised.
Reto Ziegler, remember him? Well, it seems he may be leaving the club to join Sampdoria, the club where he was on loan last season. Having never had the chance to establish himself under Jol it looks like his tenure is over, at the price of about £1.5m. It’s a shame because he had a wicked left foot. This might leave a (small) gap for Wayne Routledge to prove himself at the club, although it’s likely he could leave as well.

A few weeks ago we signed a young left back from bilbao named Yuri Berchiche. So, this new striker, with a similar name that Sky thinks we’re signing isn’t actually the case. (The fact that he didn’t score makes more sense when it turns out he’s a left back and not a striker)
