Kicking The Gift Horse in the Teeth

By: Max J. | November 9th, 2008

After watching FSC’s replay of today’s frankly miraculous win, let’s take a minute to wonder how Benoit Assou-Ekotto continues to get playing time. And let’s even be charitable and forget that he doesn’t even want to be at Spurs. His positioning was shocking all throughout the game, with his complete ignorance of the left side of the field costing Spurs one goal and nearly doing so on at least two other occasions. And with one late exception (a beauty of a cross to Bent), his lazy passing made him look more like Zokora than Zokora himself did. Thankfully he managed to offset everything by getting sent off for two predictably stupid cards, thus removing any logic-defying temptation Harry may have had to play him against Fulham.

With Gareth Bale having played a solid game against Zagreb, it’s a little baffling what Harry sees in BAE. Hopefully our Welshman will get his start next week and put BAE permanently on the bench.

I would put hutton on left and wouldnt play Bale that much cause hes injury prone..dude is made of glass.save him for the bigger games. I think hutton will play down the left at times but he still shows signs hes not totally fit yet.

Like I said on Sam’s post game analysis, the longer the FA suspend Ekotto the better so Bale can get back on form and regain his position in the starting XI. And yup Max, agreed, if we can ship BAE out in the January window I’ll be happy, hopefully we get our £2 million back but I’d be willing to negotiate on that one… As for Bale and Hutton, Phil I disagree, Hutton first off cannot play on the left side, if Bale doesn’t play it’ll be Corluka seeing as he can play anywhere along the back like or in the DM slot. Bale should be starting but I’m assuming he isn’t because of his current dip in form. With all this optimism I’d love to say we’re going to beat the Scousers again but I really don’t see it happening, although If fatty Rafa starts a second string starting XI we could hopefully get a couple quick ones and just hang on for the win, thats wishful thinking however and probably won’t happen. The league is more important anyway and top 8 by Christmas is a reasonable and achievable target. COYS

I remember when he played for Lens, he was solid as hell. Ah well.

with the likes of Hutton, king, Dawson, bale, Corluka, Woodgate, and hell even Gunter. I say let him go back to France. if he doesn’t want to be at spurs I’d hope that harry wouldn’t want him there either.
