Time to worry?
By: Gary | April 30th, 2008
Should we be worried under the stewardship of Juande Ramos?
If we listen to Younes Kaboul, then yes, we should. A case of the Frenchmen’s sour grapes at a lack of first team chances? Maybe. But I am still concerned.
Something is wrong in the Spurs camp at present and if we listen to Kaboul, its effects could be devastating. For weeks now, ‘our season over’ has been the excuse for a string of poor displays. I fear the problems may be worse. We have won just two league games since the Carling Cup triumph. Alarm bells ringing.
There is plenty to be positive about of course with the recent signing of Luka Modric and instant addition of silveware, very true, but I am afraid a lot of what Younes says makes perfect sense and explains a lot.
We can brush aside his comments in the press with ease,
but it may not make them go away.
Ramos has a master tactical streak, for that there can be little doubt, but his communication skills leave a lot to be desired in my honest opinion.
Where is his bond with the players? I have yet to see it.
Where is his bond with the fans? I have yet to see it.
Kaboul has probably said too much and come this time next season the Spaniard may be hailed our very own ’special one’, but with Ramos keeping his cards close to his chest and positioning himself as an unknown quantity, it makes him hard to judge.
If you judge him on signings and trophies, he gets a big tick in the box.
If you mark him on results against the ‘big’ four, the same applies but as of yet so many other crucial factors to success appear grey areas.
Maybe I am still struggling to accept Juande Ramos is not Martin Jol. But not knowing quite what is happening inside the very Spurs camp, makes me anxious. And makes me worried.
Why would Kaboul lie?
He won’t be here next season, that is confirmed now. I hope he is wrong but respect his opinions even if expressed in the worng manner.
They are too strong to be ignored! We may have a problem and will have to wait months for the answers.

I look at it like this Gary, he was horrible. Constantly out of place and exposing us at each and every turn. Ramos did give him opportunities early on and he was repaying those opportunities the same way he replayed Mr Martin Jol, with sloppy play. He did not improve and other players were brought in. Is he going to play over Woodgate or even Dawson? No. But when Zokora starts at Centre Back v. Wigan over Kaboul it really has to make bells ring in all Spurs fans heads to the fact that Ramos does not trust Younes.
The expectations of Ramos and Poyet are not those of our current mid table mediocrity, and hell that’s what Spurs have been for MANY years now as this is no longer our fathers double cup winning teams of years ago. No, this is a team with a tradition that is becoming more and more of a distant memory and it is my personnel hope that Ramos and Poyet have set the bar for success at White Hart Lane very, very high. If this means Ramos has yet to directly bond with fans (language barrier) then hopefully that will be remedied with wins once he brings in some of his own players. Afterall, the signings he’s made so far look VERY good. (I know I posted this on both our blogs but it pertains to both)

Hutton and Woodgate. Both are fine signings, though you and I could have made them. I do think Gilberto will be positive for us come next year and Gunter, though young, has quite a bit of promise.
I definitely see where you’re coming from though, the entire thing can make us worry and when you really look at what was said it’s not really all that negative other then Kaboul saying Juande does not talk to him. I just think he’s a player who really wants to ensure a move…

Kaboul is a kid who has had his first tast of not being a star. He says so himself. A tactical master of the game can never be bad for a team that has been allowed run unbridled for too long. Once they learn to run within a proven system (look at Sevilla), we will be unstoppable.
On another note, Jonathan Woodgate is a tremendous singning. However, I don’t trust Dawson; King is never fit. Who will stand with Woodgate, Bale, and Hutton (another tremendous signing). If we can hold onto Berba, there is no need to sign another high-priced striker. Spend the big money on a proven CB!!! It is still terrifying to watch Tottenham in the 90th!

Worry? Blimey, I’m going to save my worries for when next season is a few games through and Juande has a team he and Commoli have built together. I’m glad he’s not going out of his way to pal it up with players and fans. He doesn’t feel like being friendly until he’s been successful. Jol was a great man and friend of players and loved by fans but he settled for 2nd best. Juande is pissed off with underacheivers like Kaboul and is not going to hide it in order to seem like a nice guy. He has my total backing until christmas and then i’ll re-evaluate. I’ve learned from the false dawns of hoddle, santini et al not to judge until they’ve done something for spurs (although that 3 handled cup is a nice touch) So i’ll save my worrying for the possibility of President McCain.
